Christmas Murder Mystery Party Kit

It’s Christmas time again and the toy department at Lacy’s is selling more merchandise than its chief competitor, Tidewater’s Toys. The main reason for this explosion of sales is Elmer Ellsworth, Lacy’s holiday Santa Claus. Before Elmer was hired for last year’s Christmas season, Lacy’s toy receipts were so bad that the store was ready to stop selling toys altogether. Now, business is booming because Elmer makes Santa come alive to young and old alike.

In a daily holiday ritual, kids hug Santa and mothers give him kisses as photos are taken for Christmas albums. But, in the midst of parents and children lined up to tell the jolly old elf all about their wish lists, Elmer stands up, utters a faint “ho, ho, ho,” and falls to the floor in front of his chair. He is dead. Someone has done in the department store Santa before he could grant everyone’s wishes.

Yul Tidewater
The owner of Tidewater’s Toys. Elmer used to work for Yul until they had an argument and Elmer took his talents to Lacy’s. Tidewater’s sales immediately took a dip.

Mary Mostly
Christmas tree lot owner and the mother of five. Last year, Elmer promised that Santa would bring her brood everything they asked for. When the presents didn’t materialize, Mary’s Christmas turned chilly.

Kip Ringle
The former Santa at Lacy’s. When Kip was replaced last year by Elmer, Kip got a job as the Santa at Kimble’s Department Store, located directly across the street.

Ginger Redman
Seamstress and costume maker. She supplies all of the stores in the area with Christmas costumes for Santa and his elves. Elmer asked for some unusual alterations to his Santa suit.

Mick Flashburg
The photographer at Lacy’s. During the Christmas season, he takes photos of children sitting with Santa and sells the prints to proud parents.

Holly Hall
Elmer’s high school sweetheart. He left her standing at the altar on Christmas Eve many years ago. She’s never forgotten how he destroyed the holiday season for her.

Christmas Murder Mystery Party Kit

The mansion of greeting-card magnate Norton Pole was lit up like a Christmas tree. And, well it should be on the eve before the annual holiday. The festive occasion was a gathering of a few relatives and business associates, all celebrating another year of record profits (or is it?) for Polar Cards.

The assembled group knew everything that could be known about Pole, from north to south, and from east to west. What they didn’t know was that, over dinner, Pole would make announcements that could change their holiday seasons forever. At least, they could’ve had not someone decided to take fate to task and end Pole’s career permanently.

For, on Christmas morning, his body was found lying under the huge tree in the great room, a startling contrast to the colorful decorations. But, who would do such a thing? After all, Pole’s passion was to produce the perfect paeans to postal patrons who patiently perused each massaged message. Why would someone want to end such a lucid life? Was it Pole’s news that had triggered such a rude response?

Or, had someone taken the opportunity to pay back a dubious debt and carry out a vendetta that had been held inside for years? Only stalwart sleuthing and superior skills would uncover a killer and deck the halls with calls of “golly.”

Sutton Pole
Norton’s son and the heir to his fortune. Sutton was earmarked to take over his father’s business. Why would he be suspected of murder?

Donald McPolar
Spokesperson for Polar Cards. The cheerful Santa Claus look-alike has been the the company’s symbol for 20 years. Could it be time for a new image?

Greta Cads
Graphic artist and greeting card designer. Her unique touches on each design have won awards for Polar Cards. Lately, she’s changed the way she does the designs.

Willy Wright
Poet and copywriter. He takes Greta’s designs and adds the words that make recipients smile, blush and feel good.

Nona Cruncher
Accountant and Norton Pole’s financial advisor. She knows where every penny is spent – and where every dollar is hidden.

Minnie Hoppy Rayburns
Former greeting card rival. Her birthday card company was bought out by Polar Cards. She now reports to Norton Pole and isn’t happy about the arrangement.

Weston Pole
Norton’s first cousin. Since he arrived two years ago, lots of things have changed at Polar.

Priscilla Ink
Print shop owner. Her company has been printing Polar Cards for years. Has she been cutting corners to increase her profit margin?

Five different versions from 9  – 100 players! Ideal for a home or office party.
The portly gent who dresses in red won’t be going down any chimneys this year. He is dead – possibly murdered – yes, it’s scandalous but true. It happened just before the company Christmas party being held at Chatties Restaurant. Did someone not want him to be there? Was it revenge for an unwanted present from Santa last year? Or was it just old age catching up with him?
We’re here to find out the real juicy truth. The media are also here. But this time they aren’t just reporting what happened. They are suspects too. A really fun game for family or work colleagues. Throw a christmas party with a difference this year!
Here is an extract from the meet and mingle pack, for upto 100 players, explaining how to introduce the game.
“These are to be read out by the host to the whole group at the beginning of the party: Welcome to “Who Killed Santa?” As you know we have been invited here today for the office Christmas Party. Unfortunately, I have some sad news. Santa has been murdered. Just before this party was set to commence, he collapsed and died. Those of us who were here when this tragedy occurred are being considered suspects by the police who have also just arrived. I will introduce the suspects to you in a moment. I urge you to refrain from going near the body as we have to let the police do their job without interruption. You have all been asked to remain here for questioning by the police. You must tell as many people as you can what you know. If you find out interesting new information, you can also pass that on to the people you meet. We must all work together to help determine who is the villain in our midst. And you must do whatever you have been instructed to do. Don’t panic if you don’t get to talk to everyone. You will hear and see enough to help you work out who did it. You may want to jot down some notes on your clue page. When we do have some facts or evidence, we will read these to you.”

I’m Dreaming of a Red Christmas: a Christmas Mystery

Over 15 Guests (Adult theme recommended aged 18 and over)
Residents of the North Pole are accustomed to keeping secrets.  They swear never to disclose the location of Santa’s Workshop, and they keep Santa’s identity anonymous.

A Santa Claus serves for a term.  When he retires, he appoints his successor.  Most retired Santas then leave the North Pole and travel the world with their spouses.

The current Santa showed no signs of retiring.  In recent years, he bewildered the sweet Pole folk with what can only be described as “poor choices;” he even bordered on being bad-listed!

Somebody decided that enough was enough and laced his eggnog with poison at the Annual Christmas Eve party.  His death comes as a guilty relief to most, but now there’s no Santa to deliver the gifts at midnight.  The Pole Folk must discover the killer, in order to convince someone else to step up to be Santa and save Christmas!

For once, the North Pole has a secret that is too big to keep.

Here are some of the characters from the game:

Yule is an elf, and the head reindeer trainer. Yule speaks about little other than reindeers- he loves them dearly. To anybody that will listen, Yule is happy to share tips for most efficient aerodynamic antler design, diet to improve the sheen of a reindeer’s coat, how the reindeer games are really effective training exercises.

Mrs. Claus is the wife to Santa Claus.  She is a gracious hostess, and always has freshly baked cookies coming out of the oven.

Holly is an Elf, and has recently been appointed the Director of Christmas Caroling at the North Pole.  Holly is beautiful, sweet and articulate, and smarter than she is given credit for.  She is willing to discuss caroling with anybody, but also has strong political opinions and enjoys a good debate.

The Abominable Snowman is Santa’s political nemesis.  His job is to patrol the borders of the North Pole, keeping trespassors from discovering Santa’s Workshop.  He is also a political activist, expressing concern that the office of Santa has no accountability, which is why the current Santa appears to be abusing his power.

Christmas crimes murder mysteryBebe Bumbletree is hosting a Christmas party for all her friends and is determined for everything to be perfect. She rented a Christmas movie for them all to watch and has bought and wrapped a gift for each of her guests, which she carefully placed under the tree.

Everything is perfectly planned – that is, until strange things start happening, things Bebe is not expecting, and certainly won’t stand for. Before the night is through, the Christmas Crimes will be solved!

A Christmas themed kid’s mystery party. Three mini-mysteries: The mystery of the headless snowman, the case of the toppled tree and the mystery of the missing presents.

Optional adult player and even the family pet can join in the fun!

The Characters

Bebe BumblebeeBebe Bumbletree has been planning her Christmas party since the first snowflake fell. A bit obsessive, she has been running around, making preparations, hoping everything will be perfect.

She has a secret crush on Barry Broadbarn, who is attending the party and is hoping to catch him underr the mistletoe. Bebe is a bit shrill, wants everything to be perfect and insists her guests use coasters.

She loved Christmas so much that she has been wandering around humming since December 1st.

Willy WilsonWilly Wilson is very eccentric. At school, he’s the class clown. Willy is determined to make the party, and any situation, fun – at least, his idea of fun. Willy is a true practical joker, having played tricks on every person attending the party. He also likes magic tricks, especially card tricks.
Harvest GoldHarvest Gold is a gentle girl who believes in protecting the environment and saving dolphins from tuna nets. She adores all things cute, is a strict vegetarian, and believes any conflict can be resolved with a sing-along.

Her parents don’t believe in celebrating Christmas, claiming it has lost its meaning and is far too commercial these days. Harvest regrets this; she loves Christmas and wishes she could have a Christmas of her own.

Her parents almost didn’t let her come to the party because of their strong views, but Harvest begged them and they finally gave in.

SandySandy Scaleyskin is very popular, but is a mean girl who likes to put people down.

She doesn’t like Bebe, and hangs out with a completely different group of people. Even though Sandy knows that Bebe only invited her out of desperation to be popular, she still agreed to attend.

FluffyFluffy can be played by a real live pet – a cat or dog, or can be substituted with a stuffed animal if you don’t have a pet.

Fluffy can’t help but get excited about parties; the yummy cookies fed to him under the table, the shiny tinsel that is great to chew on – what’s not to like?
